About
CP 4052 is part of Georgia Tech’s Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS) initiative, which provides students with opportunities to combine their academic and career interests with their desire to make worthwhile contributions to the world and build sustainable communities where people and nature thrive, in Georgia, the United States, and around the globe.
Objective
The objective of the CP 4052 class was to create a Greenhouse Gas Inventory for the City of Atlanta. The report followed the BASIC reporting guidelines stated in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were taken into consideration for each team where applicable.
The class is taught by Dr. Jairo Garcia. Dr. Garcia is an expert in sustainable urban development, carbon mitigation, and climate resiliency. Dr. Garcia's main area of research is focused on elements of spatial data analysis for ecological assessments and to identify climate vulnerabilities and risk analysis.
Methods
The class was split into five teams of either two or three people. Each team was assigned a sector of greenhouse gas emissions. Each team applied different methods in order to formulate a final value for the total emissions or sequestration from their specific sector.
